Description
Ford Village & Ford Moss
This is a lovely walk around Ford Village & Ford Moss, also taking in Roughting Linn waterfall. We start in Ford Village and set off through Fordhill wood. Then we head across some fields and down a hill towards Blackcrag Wood. From here we follow a path across another field and up to Ford Moss.
Ford Moss
This area extends over about 150 acres on top of a hill overlooking the surrounding area. Since 1968 it has been a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). In 2000 it was further classified by the European Union as a Special Area of Conservation (SAC).
The Moss itself is dangerous to walk on, but there is a 2 mile path around it, giving excellent views of the surrounding countryside as well as the Moss itself.
Roughting Linn
We will also go out past Goats Crag Hill, to the waterfall at Roughting Linn. If we can find them we can also see the rock art in the Roughting Linn area. We return the same way back to Ford Moss and then back to the village.
