The start
We start parked in the road leading to Dunstanburgh Golf Course. Then we walk through Embleton, visiting the Nature Reserve (you may have seen this on a Kate Humble programme). Hopefully, we will see the goats and the Exmoor ponies.
Kelsoe Hill
After our visit to the Nature Reserve, we walk on the path and through a field to Kelsoe Hill. Don’t worry its not a big hill but the view from the top over to Newton by the Sea and Dunstanburgh Castle is stunning.
There is a lot of gorse on the hill and the aroma of coconut is amazing.
We keep walking through fields to High Newton and then past the small but interesting St Mary’s Church.
We follow the road through Low Newton. We may stop here for refreshments at the Ship Inn.
Embleton Bay
We will walk up the beach towards the iconic Dunstanburgh Castle. This is a great chance to practice your technique and get extra pointers from us.
We love beach walking although on this beach there are a couple of small areas where we may get our feet wet.
Our route up the beach takes us near (but not to) Dunstanburgh Castle. Here we will stop and look at Greymare Rock (also known as Saddle Rock) which is an amazing outcrop of the Whin Sill.
Back to Embleton
We will walk around the back of the golf course before returning to Embleton Village.
Refreshments
There are a few places to get refreshments in Embleton. The Dunstanburgh Castle Hotel is very good.
Hope to see you there,
Julie and Martin x
