Great introductory lesson to Nordic walking.

I attended the session at Wallington run by Julie and Martin..

My mobility has deteriorated due to a health condition and I’m always looking for ways to keep active in the outdoors.

They both have an enthusiastic passion for Nordic walking and are great ambassadors for the activity.

I really enjoyed the session which was informative, instructive and fun .

I even came away with 2 sets of borrowed poles to try out in my own time.

Wonderful walk in the Cheviots!

I wish there was a Strolls with Poles where I live! This was my second experience of walking with Julie and Martin’s very special group and certainly won’t be my last. The walk in the Cheviot Hills was amazing and the sun shone for us. For anyone new to Strolls with Poles you will be given the warmest and friendliest welcome. Fantastic midweek walk

Fantastic walk today, new area for us to visit. Julie is an excellent teacher and guide. I’ve found Nordic walking to be excellent exercise and a good social activity. With a lovely visit to the tearoom at the end.

I decided to book the session at NT Wallington Hall to see if Nordic walking is going to be something I want to do for my health and fitness.

Julie and Martin were so friendly and encouraging . It was tricky trying to bring together all the parts of the technique but Julie gave me such positive feedback I persisted!

Thank you for a damp but enjoyable time and I’ll be getting into Nordic walking now.

What is Nordic Walking?

We are often asked “What is Nordic Walking?”

Nordic Walking uses specially designed poles to enhance your natural walking style.  It uses a technique that is similar to the upper body action of cross country skiing.  Indeed this is where Nordic Walking stems from.

Nordic Walking becomes a whole body exercise which can be enjoyed by everyone, no matter what your age and fitness level.  From the gentler walking for health to the more athletic Nordic running.

More than 10 million people in over 40 countries around the world enjoy this outdoor activity all year round.

How will Nordic Walking benefit me and my body?

Nordic Walking poles share the effort between your upper and lower body and combine the simplicity and accessibility of walking to create a full body low impact workout.

The benefits of Nordic Walking are:

  • it can release tension in your neck and shoulders
  • it will improve your posture and gait
  • you can strengthen your back and abdominal muscles
  • it can tone problem areas such as the upper arms (bingo wings) and abdominal muscles
  • it reduces the impact on your joints
  • It can be very effective for people with mobility issues or those recovering from illness or injury
  • you can burn from 20% up to 46% more calories compared to walking without Nordic Walking poles
  • it actually feels easier than normal walking, particularly uphill because the effort is shared between the upper and lower body

Because Nordic Walking doesn’t feel like hard work
you will be happy to walk further and for longer.

We specialise in enjoying fun, relaxing and friendly walks in a variety of beautiful locations in the North East of England.  We sometimes even venture further afield, taking part in challenge walks and away days.

As a reward we always end (sometimes during) our walks enjoying tea and cakes, in local tea rooms and cafes.

Allen Banks is one of our favourites as the scenery is always beautiful regardless of the time of year. The variation of a tarn, a wooded valley, a beautiful river and it’s bridges makes a wonderful walk. It’s a great place to visit.
