The Alnwick River Walk was another walk that was canceled earlier in the year. It is always a popular walk.
The start

We met at the usual parking place, Ratten Row outside of Hulne Park. Introductions were made as we welcomed three new walkers, Sian, Doug and Beth.
The walk
We started walking towards Alnwick Castle and past Alnwick Garden. We stopped to admire the Singing Gate (unfortunately we forgot to get a picture).
The Singing Gate
This is a gate in the wall by the Rose Garden. Unveiled on 27 August 2015 by the Duchess of Northumberland. The design is as a rambling rose with stems, branches and leaves. Although we haven’t heard it it has a special feature that as someone approaches it, birdsong is triggered. Crafted by blacksmith Stephen Lunn and his daughter Ashlee Donaldson. The glasswork, including the irises along the base, being made by glass artist Helen Grierson and the electronics produced by electronics engineer Richard Benjamin.
Back to the walk
We crossed the road and followed the fields. Unfortunately the company building the new houses blocked the public footpath so we had to climb a fence.
We stopped for a short while to look at Sian and Doug’s new house, which is mid build. Sian especially was extremely excited.
After this excitement we kept walking to Peter’s Mill footbridge. This footbridge was built in 2004 and replaced stepping stones.

There was a Water Mill here which ceased being used in 1920. For more information read here.
Following the river
We followed the River Aln, passing below Alnwick Castle with the Lion Bridge in the background.

Our last section of the walk took us on the outskirts of Hulne Park before the incline back to the cars.
After the walk
After the cool down we visited our friends and favourite tearoom in Alnwick, Grannies Tearoom. You are guaranteed a warm welcome and gorgeous food, especially (in the summer) the seafood stack is delicious. The cakes are delicious too.
Hope you all enjoyed the walk. See you next time.
