Walk: Felton and Weldon Bridge
Guide: Julie
Walk leaders: Anne
Weather: Sunny and hot
Distance of walk: 10.7 miles
It was a great day for this beautiful walk. It was great to welcome Shirley for her first Strolls with Poles walk.
Felton
We met in Felton, where some of us took the opportunity to start with a cup of tea at The Running Fox. Back here later.
And we were off
We started with a warm up before walking along the road past St Michael’s Church which was to be the scene for a wedding and had flowers around the doorway.
We turned left and followed St Oswald’s Way through a beautiful woodland and under the A1. We crossed lots of fields some with sheep and some with cows and bulls. It was obviously too hot for them as they didn’t take any notice of us.
There is a beautiful house and garden at Catheugh, which Andrea found out, by talking to the gardener, had been empty for about 25 years!
We had a section where we consulted the GPS and map as well as Claire spotting the St Oswald’s Way sign on a gate post.
Weldon Bridge
Once we got to Weldon Bridge we stopped at The Angler’s Arms for lunch. The crab sandwiches were definitely a favourite for most of the walkers.
Martyn and Shirley decided that they wouldn’t be making the return journey so called Jan and Chris (their respective spouses) to collect them.
The rest of the group headed back to Felton. Anne decided to do her party trick of vaulting a gate instead of walking through it.
Once back at Felton, Claire, Chris, Marilyn and Bob decided to head straight home, whereas Andrea, Sharon, Anne and Julie stayed for our customary piece of cake!
It was a lovely day, great people and really hot weather. The distance ended up being 10.7 miles!
I hope you all enjoyed it and hope to see you soon. Our next walk is Saturday 7th July at High and Low Force.
