Description
Wall and Heavenfield
The Wall and Heavenfield walk is a lovely short walk in the heart of Hadrian’s Wall country and a favourite short walk of Julie. There is lots of history here and we visit the highest point in the immediate area as well as a very historical Northumberland church, Heavenfield.

We start in the beautiful village of Wall and walk to the other end of the village before setting off on an old farm track. This takes us up to a fileds, which we cross on the way to Fallowfield. Turning left at Fallowfield, we pass the Fallowfield Alpacas. The route then takes us across fields to reach St Oswald’s Church and Heavenfield, the end of St Oswald’s Way. From here we get some amazing views.
On the way back, we pass a small piece of Hadrian’s Wall at Planetrees. This piece of wall is significant in that it shows where the width of the wall was reduced from 10 feet to 8 feet, probably to speed up building.
After Planetrees we take a path through a wood, along a quiet road and then back into Wall.
After the walk
We will drive down to Chollerford and The Riverside Kitchen.
We hope to see you there.
