The start
We start at Seaton Sluice and take the steps down towards the small harbour. From here we walk along Holywell Dene to the footbridge. Here we take a path across farmland. This path used to be a branch line to Seaton Sluice Harbour.
Holywell Pond Nature Reserve
We will cross another railway path that was the line going towards what is now Monkseaton Metro Station. Here we pass Holywell Pond Nature Reserve. There are several viewing points and hides, where you can sit and watch the birds.
We will take a path past Holywell Village and then rejoin the railway path we crossed earlier.
Briar Dene Farm to Old Hartley
At Briar Dene Farm we leave the railway and take paths back towards the coast. There is a short stretch of road before we reach the Coast Path. We pass St Mary’s Lighthouse and then reach Old Hartley. From Old Hartley we walk along the cliff top to Collywell Bay and Seaton Sluice.
When we get back to Seaton Sluice, we will visit Castaway’s Tea Shop for refreshments.
Hope to see you there.
