Description
Newcastle Airport and Big Waters Country Park
After the last walk in Ponteland, we liked it so much that we wanted to do another one here this year. So, Geoff has come up with another walk around the airport. This walk takes us round Newcastle Airport and through Big Waters Country Park.

The start
We will leave the car park and follow a path east towards the airport freight village. From here we walk along the southern boundary of the airport past the disused Woolsington Hall to join Brunton Lane and on towards Brunton Farm.
Havannah Nature Reserve and Big Waters Country Park
After a short walk alongside the road, the walk takes us through Havannah Nature Reserve, Brunswick Village, around the industrial estate and on to Big
Waters Country Park, where we can have a lunch stop.
We then head west to Dinnington, Prestwick Carr, Prestwick and towards the main airport roundabout. Prestwick Carr is a large area of low lying wetland, which is a great place to see wading birds.
One of the highlights of the last walk was a path that took us to the Airport’s Western approach lights. We will follow that track again and hopefully see a few planes taking off or landing. From here it’s only a short distance before we cross the A696 back to Callerton Parkway.
Look forward to seeing you there.
