Grasmere Gallop – 1st June 2019

Grasmere Gallop 2019 was the third Grasmere Gallop for several of us and we were looking forward to it. Most of us had come over to the Lakes on Friday, so that we could get a good nights rest and be fresh for the morning.

Crammel Linn Walk – 25th May 2019

We arrived in Gilsland bright and early, ready for the Crammel Linn walk. First things first, Julie, Martin and Anne went directly to the House of Meg cafe for breakfast. The bacon sandwich was excellent and perfect fuel for a walk.

Sutton Bank Recce – 19th May 2019

To round off the International Nordic walking day weekend we decided to take a look at the Sutton Bank walk. Anyone who has been to North Yorkshire is likely to be aware of Sutton Bank. Maybe even have memories of the car struggling up the steep road. The lake around Sutton Bank offers much more than you would normally see from the road.

Here we were at the Carey Burn Bridge. The start of the Happy Valley Walk. We were welcoming Matt and Garry on their first Strolls With Poles walk, after attending a training session, at Wallington recently. It was also great to see Ally again.

Haltwhistle and Lambley Recce – 13th May 2019

It was a nice day and I fancied a long walk. We had an idea for a walk from Haltwhistle and one of the many books, that we have, had this one in it. It is a circular walk from Haltwhistle and of a reasonable length. So, it was perfect for a day walk.

The Wannie Line Recce – 23rd May 2019

It was a nice day and nothing much to do. So, after considering some the list of new walks that we have, Martin decided to take a look at the Wannie Line. Some of you might have already done a walk round here. It’s very popular with walking groups and is on National Trust land, the Wallington Estate to be specific.

Learn to Nordic Walk at Wallington – 12th May 2019

Wallington - Wallington_12052019-2.jpg

Our fourth training session at Wallington.  Julie took the training. We started in the Visitors Centre, as usual, by introducing Strolls with Poles and Nordic Walking in general.

Barnard Castle & Teesdale Way – 6th May 2019

We were at a loose end on Easter Monday, so we needed something to do. The weather forecast wasn’t too good, so higher level walks were discounted early. One option was a river walk from Barnard Castle, along the Teesdale Way. It looked reasonably easy and, even if it did rain, it wouldn’t be too bad. We picked Anne up and off we went.

Another visit to Wooler for a lovely days walk out to Yeavering Bell. We have become regulars in Wooler over the past month so the routine was familiar. Meet in Wooler Common car park and go from there.

Harbottle Wood – 5th May 2019

We met up at Holystone picnic area for our visit to Harbottle Wood. There was some confusion over the actual starting point and some arrived spot on 10am. It’s difficult to check the details these days when there is no phone reception in the area. No matter, as it was only a small group.

Beginners Fun

4th August 2025

I Learnt to walk properly with the use of a Nordic poles in the grounds of Wallington in Northumberland. The hosts Julie and Martin were great. Julie was patient and explained again if not understood and had all of us in stitches at times. After an hour of building up our skills in small steps up and down and round and round the courtyard green we set off on a gentle hours walk around Wallington itself. Martin & Julie told of the changing seasons to Wallington and even pointed out a gooseberry bush and the blackberries.

I lagged at the back but this was not a problem and I was not left out of the group because of this.

Professional business ran by two great people.

Warkworth to Alnmouth

27th July 2025

Thank you Julie for a lovely day out. Having only previously done the training at Wallington was concerned that this walk might be too difficult. However the pace was manageable and the whole group were very friendly and supportive. We were fortunate with the weather and the scenery lovely . Hope to see you again soon

Nordic Walking after hip replacement

16th July 2025

Thank you very much for an enjoyable refresh on the Beginners Strolls with Poles walk last Sunday at Wallington.

I have found that the Nordic poles have increased my confidence after my recent hip replacement and have helped me to extend the distance I can walk comfortably.
