Description

Feel Good in the Forest Evening Session – Chopwell Wood

I was asked by the group who have been attending the evening Feel Good in the Forest Nordic Walks in Chopwell Wood if we could continue in the dark nights.

I have added a few dates – the start time will still be 5.30 pm and if you have a head torch bring it along but don’t rush out and buy one as I have spares.  The dates are:

Wednesday 15 October
Monday 27 October
Wednesday 5 November
Monday 10 November
Wednesday 19 November
Monday 24 November

The start

We meet in the big car park for a 5.30 pm start and set off on one of the many routes in Chopwell Wood.

The walk

The walk is between 2-3 miles and includes some of the small inclines (which shows how beneficial Nordic Walking poles are).  We do stop at various times and take photos and admire the beautiful area.

Interesting information

Chopwell Wood has been managed for centuries and before that was part of the wild wood that covered large swathes of Britain.  In the past, the wood from Chopwell was used to build warships.  More recently, it has been the source of local Christmas trees.

The Forestry Commission designated Chopwell Wood as a Woodland Park in 1993, prioritising recreation and leisure over forestry.  Close to 200,000 visitors use this park every year.
