Bamburgh and Seahouses

Bamburgh_Budle - Bamburgh_Budle_Bay_28072019M-2.jpg Bamburgh and Budle Bay

Bamburgh and Seahouses visits two of the great places on the Northumbrian coast.  Historical Bamburgh, with Bamburgh Castle  dominating the village.  Seahouses is a tourist hotspot and fishing village, famous for fish and chips and boat trips to the Farne Islands.

Due to the tide times we are going to do this walk the opposite way.  We are going across the fields on the Coast Path to Seahouses and back to Bamburgh on the beach.

Start

We will start in one of the beach car parks to the North of Bamburgh.  We will take the path towards Bamburgh Castle.  We follow the Northumberland Coastal Path to Seahouses.

Bamburgh - BamburghSeahouses 3

Northumberland Coastal Path

The Northumberland Coastal Path runs from Cresswell to Berwick upon Tweed.  For this section it is also St Oswald’s Way.  Unusually, at this point it doesn’t follow the coast and crosses fields inland.

Seahouses

We will stop for lunch at Seahouses.  If you like, you can enjoy some fish and chips, as it is early in the year, we can book a table in one of the many fish and chip restaurants.  Or of course take your own lunch.  There is a terraced seating area, overlooking the harbour, to sit and eat although it may be chilly.

The way back

Once we have finished lunch, we will leave Seahouses and head down to the beach.  This will provide spectacular views of the Castle, coastline and out to sea.  You will also see the decorated tank traps on the beach.

The Beach

The beach to Bamburgh is one of the best in Northumberland.  You get a great view of Bamburgh Castle from the beach.  We can really work on technique and get a good pace going.

Bamburgh - Bamburgh-2

After we finish, we will head back into the village for tea and cake.  We can visit either the Copper Kettle or the newly refurbished Bamburgh Walled Garden as recommended by Tina.

Hope to see you there.
