Last Saturday we were over in the heart of the Lake District, Grasmere. We were there for the 2018 Grasmere Gallop and were all looking forward to it. This event is for runners and Nordic walkers, with several distances of run and a 10K Nordic walk along the side of Grasmere.
We checked in and then waited, in anticipation of the start. While waiting we joined in with a warm up led by another group of Nordic Walkers. Something a little different to usual.
We were instructed to go towards the muster flag at around 10:50 before being piped into the village, ready for the start. At 11:00 off we went. Everyone at their own pace. Some going as fast as possible and others admiring the view, which was beautiful..
It was a little humid and the midges were biting, but it was still a wonderful walk. Outward we walked along the road by the lake before diverting onto Loughrigg Terrace and all the way along to Rydal Caves. From here we turned for home and followed the lakeside path back to Grasmere Village and the finish.
It was a great effort, with great technique, all round. We all finished within 40 minutes of each other. What an achievement. Videos of the Nordic Nuts finishing are below.
