The Start
We will start the walk at the end of Ratten Row nearest the town. This is the road which leads up to Hulne Park in Alnwick.
We will walk down the road out of Alnwick and then take a footpath around the outside of Hulne Park. We will reach the Lion Bridge. This bridge not only provides a great view of Alnwick Castle but has a statue of the Percy Lion, with its distinctive straight tail.
Along the river
We will follow the River Aln towards the bridge we cross on the Alnwick River walk. We won’t cross it on this one but we will follow a path to a byway that takes us across Gozells Hill. This track takes us to the Lesbury road, which we use to reach another byway that leads to Old Hawkhill stepping stones.
Aln Valley Railway
This is where we cross the River Aln and then head up to Greenrigg Halt. This is now part of the Aln Valley Railway. We will take the path by the railway and follow the railway to Lionheart Station.
From here, we take the road under the A1 and back to Alnwick.
Grannie’s Tearoom
After the walk we will be visiting our favourite tearoom in Alnwick, Grannies Tearoom.
