You might be asking “Why do they need eighteen different poles?” Well, they are all slightly different and have features and a price to suit everyone. If you feel that it’s all a bit confusing, we have written an article on how to choose Nordic Walking poles. This should shed some light on the differences and help you choose the best poles for you.

Leki Traveller Carbon
- Material: 100% Carbon – 187g / unit
- Type: Traveller adjustable (62 – 130 cm)
- Adjustment system: Speed Lock 2
- Glove attachment: Trigger Shark 2.0
RRP: £144.95 per pair
This is our Nordic Walking pole of choice at the moment and is placed at the top of the Leki Nordic Walking poles range at the moment. The reason is that we travel to walks a lot and like the fact that it can be reduced to a length of 62 cm (even less if dismantled). Also, as Nordic Walking Instructors, we often have to loan out poles. So, it provides the adjustment required to cater for people of most heights. Even with the adjustment features, it still remains one of the lightest poles in the range.
Leki Micro Flash Carbon
- Material: 100% Carbon – 175g / unit (based on a length of 120cm)
- Type: Traveller fixed length (105, 110, 115, 120,125, 130 cm)
- Adjustment system: Not adjustable
- Glove attachment: Trigger Shark 2.0
RRP: £134.95 per pair
We’ve only recently became aware of these poles but we are very impressed with them. This is only pole of its type in the range. They are similar to trail running poles. Like conventional traveller type poles, they come in multiple sections and can be shortened for storage and transport. The difference is that the sections are held together by bungee cord and a simple locking mechanism.
Leki Smart Traveller Carbon
- Material: Aluminium/Carbon – 212g / unit
- Type: Traveller adjustable (90 – 130 cm)
- Adjustment system: Super Lock
- Glove attachment: Trigger Shark 2.0
RRP: £134.95 per pair
These poles are very similar to the Leki Traveller Carbon above and we’d recommend spending a little bit more for those. These are an older type of pole, as they use the Super Lock locking mechanism, rather than the more recent Speed Lock 2. They are significantly heavier than the Traveller Carbon because of this. They do have the Smart tip, which can be easily switched for hard or soft terrain, without handling the tip.
Leki Walker Platinum
- Material: 100% Carbon – 166g / unit (based on a length of 115cm)
- Type: Fixed length (100, 105, 110, 115, 120,125, 130 cm)
- Adjustment system: Not adjustable
- Glove attachment: Trigger Shark 2.0
RRP: £114.95 per pair
This is not only the lightest fixed pole pole but the lightest of the whole range. It is a very minimal design, to ensure that only the essentials are there. It does have the latest Shark 2.0 glove attachment. The pinnacle of Leki fixed length poles and one for the purist Nordic Walker.
Leki Smart Carbon
- Material: 100% Carbon – 174g / unit (based on a length of 115cm)
- Type: Fixed length (100, 105, 110, 115, 120,125, 130 cm)
- Adjustment system: Not adjustable
- Glove attachment: Trigger Shark 2.0
RRP: £114.95 per pair
This is very similar to the Leki Walker Platinum, above, but with the Smart tip. The Smart tip allows the user to quickly switch between soft and hard surface tip, without touching the tip. It is the Smart tip that adds on the extra few grams that make it marginally heavier than the Leki Walker Platinum.
Leki Smart Supreme
- Material: Aluminium – 225g / unit
- Type: Adjustable (100 – 130 cm)
- Adjustment system: Speed Lock 2
- Glove attachment: Trigger Shark 2.0
RRP: £94.95 per pair
The highest priced adjustable pole in the range. This is probably because they incorporate the Smart tip. This pole is aluminium, so is relatively heavy, when compared to other adjustable poles. Unless you want the Smart tip, we’d advise going for a carbon adjustable pole, like the Leki Instructor Lite.
Leki Smart Comp
- Material: Carbon composite – 178g / unit (based on a length of 115cm)
- Type: Fixed length (100 – 130 cm)
- Adjustment system: Not adjustable
- Glove attachment: Trigger Shark 2.0
RRP: £94.95 per pair
This pole is almost identical to the Leki Smart Carbon but manufactured from carbon composite rather than 100% carbon, hence the four gram weight difference. These also incorporate the Smart tip, and are significantly cheaper than the Leki Smart Carbon. So, unless the weight saving is essential, these poles are better value.
Leki Traveller Alu
- Material: Aluminium – 235g / unit
- Type: Traveller adjustable (66 – 130 cm)
- Adjustment system: Speed Lock 2
- Glove attachment: Trigger Shark 2.0
RRP: £94.95 per pair
These are the cheapest traveller type poles in the range. They are also the heaviest. However, for the price conscious that need a traveller pole, these are great value.
Leki Instructor Lite
- Material: Carbon composite – 171g / unit
- Type: Adjustable (100 – 125 cm)
- Adjustment system: Speed Lock 2
- Glove attachment: Trigger Shark 2.0
RRP: £94.95 per pair
These are the lightest adjustable poles in the range, as they are made from a carbon composite. They also incorporate the Speed Lock 2 locking mechanism and Shark 2.0 glove attachment. If we were to choose an adjustable pole, these would be the ones.
Leki Supreme Shark
- Material: Aluminium – 207g / unit
- Type: Adjustable (100 – 130 cm)
- Adjustment system: Super Lock
- Glove attachment: Trigger Shark 2.0
RRP: £79.95 per pair
A mid-range adjustable pole, similar to the Leki Spin Shark SL . It has the latest Shark 2.0 glove attachment but also has the older Super Lock locking mechanism. If you prefer the Speed Lock mechanism, take a look at the slightly cheaper Leki Spin Shark SL.
Leki Flash Carbon
- Material: Carbon composite – 167g / unit (based on a length of 115cm)
- Type: Fixed Length (100, 105, 110, 115, 120, 125, 130 cm)
- Adjustment system: Not adjustable
- Glove attachment: Trigger Shark 2.0
RRP: £79.95 per pair
This is the next lightest pole after the Leki Walker Platinum, by 1 gram per unit. However, it is significantly cheaper. If you want all of the benefits of the Leki Walker Platinum but cheaper, this is the one for you.
Leki Spin Shark SL
- Material: Aluminium – 215g / unit
- Type: Adjustable (100 – 130 cm)
- Adjustment system: Speed Lock +
- Glove attachment: Trigger Shark 2.0
RRP: £74.95 per pair
This is the most modern of the adjustable poles on offer. It has the Speed Lock + locking mechanism and the Shark 2.0 glove attachment. A good value adjustable pole but if the Speed Lock is not important and weight is, then for a little more, the Leki Supreme Shark could be a better option.
Leki Smart Carat
- Material: Aluminium – 203g / unit (based on a length of 115cm)
- Type: Fixed Length (100, 105, 110, 115, 120, 125, 130 cm)
- Adjustment system: Not adjustable
- Glove attachment: Trigger Shark 2.0
RRP: £74.95 per pair
This is the cheapest fixed length pole with the latest Shark 2.0 glove attachment. It also has the Smart tip. However, it is manufactured from aluminium, so is not the lightest pole in the range. If the Shark 2.0 is a must have and you know what length you need, then this could be the pole for you.
Leki Passion
- Material: Carbon composite – 167g / unit (based on a length of 115cm)
- Type: Fixed Length (100, 105, 110, 115, 120 cm)
- Adjustment system: Not adjustable
- Glove attachment: Trigger 1
RRP: £69.95 per pair
Unusually, this is marketed as a Ladies pole and is the only one in the Leki Nordic Walking poles range. It isn’t significantly different to the Leki Elite Carbon and only marginally lighter. Unless you’ve fallen in love with the colour, go for the cheaper Leki Elite Carbon.
Leki Elite Carbon
- Material: Carbon composite – 171g / unit (based on a length of 115cm)
- Type: Fixed Length (100, 105, 110, 115, 120, 125, 130 cm)
- Adjustment system: Not adjustable
- Glove attachment: Trigger 1
RRP: £69.95 per pair
This is the cheapest carbon pole in the range. It does have the older Trigger 1 glove attachment but is still a good fixed length pole and significantly lighter than the Leki Response.
Leki Walker XS
- Material: Aluminium – 190g / unit
- Type: Adjustable (80 – 110 cm)
- Adjustment system: Speed Lock 2
- Glove attachment: Trigger Shark 2.0
RRP: £59.95 per pair
This pole is specifically for children and is the only pole in the Leki Nordic Walking poles range. Hence it’s short range of adjustment (only up to 110 cm). Even so, this pole is relatively light and it incorporates the latest features, Speed Lock 2 adjustment and the Trigger Shark 2.0 glove attachment. As they are adjustable they should last while they grow.
Leki Spin
- Material: Aluminium – 220g / unit
- Type: Adjustable (100 – 130 cm)
- Adjustment system: Super Lock
- Glove attachment: Trigger 1
RRP: £59.95 per pair
This is the cheapest adjustable pole in the range. It is also one of the heaviest and still uses the older Super Lock locking mechanism and Trigger 1 glove attachment. If you can spend a little more, the Leki Spin Shark SL are better. If you can afford it, the Leki Instructor Lite are a much better option.
Leki Response
- Material: Aluminium – 188g / unit
- Type: Fixed Length (100, 105, 110, 115, 120, 125, 130 cm)
- Adjustment system: Not adjustable
- Glove attachment: Trigger 1
RRP: £49.95 per pair
This is the cheapest fixed length pole and cheapest pole in the Leki Nordic Walking poles range. However, at 188g per unit, it is still very light for an aluminium pole. It uses the Trigger 1 glove attachment, which is two generations older than the current Shark 2.0 attachment method. However, if you know what length pole you need and are looking for a bargain, these are great value.
Features of Leki Nordic Walking Poles
Some of the features mentioned above are described in greater detail here.
Trigger Shark 2.0
Trigger Shark 2.0 is glove attachment that uses a loop on the glove, which slips over a latching mechanism. The loop clicks in and can be released by sliding the top of the pole back.
Trigger 1
The Trigger 1 is another glove attachment but an earlier design than Trigger Shark 2.0. The glove is attached using a plastic insert that is pushed into the pole handle. The glove can be released by pressing the button on the top of the pole.
Super Lock
Super Lock is the older method of locking adjustable poles. It is a twisting lock and release system. This has been largely replaced with Speed Lock system.
Speed Lock
The Speed Lock system is a simpler locking system than Super Lock and is less likely to fail. It is a simple clamp, locked and released by an arm. The tightness of the clamp can be adjusted using a small thumb screw.
Smart tip
The Smart tip allows the user to quickly switch between soft and hard surface tip, without touching the tip.
Speed tip
Speed tip is a hook like tip that is fitted to several fixed length poles. This tip provides good placement on all surfaces whilst reducing weight to a minimum.
All-terrain tip
The all-terrain tip is an all purpose tip fitted to the majority of poles from Leki. It provides good placement on all surfaces and allows a rubber foot to be attached over it, for use on hard surfaces.
