We finally managed to do the Allen Banks walk following the cancellation due to the weather in January. Allen Banks was mainly created by Susan Davidson. It is a Site of Special Scientific Interest.
The walk

We met in our usual place, in the NT Allen Banks car park. Once everyone had arrived we set off. It was good to see some walkers returning to the group following injuries and knee replacements.
Moralee Tarn

We started on the quiet road which took us onto our route to Moralee Tarn.
We followed the John Martin Way via fields and paths up through the woodland.
Charcoal Kiln
As we are all aware the Victorians brought the rhododendron to the UK. The National Trust cut down the rhododendron, dry it out and then use the charcoal kiln to produce charcoal. More information is available here: Our work at Allen Banks and Staward Gorge | National Trust
Plankey Mill
Half way is Plankey Mill. We crossed the bridge here, before climbing up to the top path and heading back to the start.

After the walk
We visited Oddfellows Coffee Shop in Haydon Bridge, where we enjoyed dim sum and toasties.
We hope you all enjoyed the day. See you next time.
