Parkinson’s UK Funding

We have recently secured funding from Parkinson’s UK to provide Nordic Walking beginners sessions at the beautiful Rising Sun Country Park.  With the funding from Parkinson’s UK the cost of a session is £5 per person – which you can pay by cash on the day or by BACS.

Nordic Walking and Parkinson’s

Nordic Walking is an excellent exercise for people with Parkinson’s?  Nordic Walking can potentially slow the progression of the condition and improve various motor and non-motor symptoms.

Nordic walking can help you maintain a better posture and keep you more upright. At the same time, taking longer strides can gently stretch your limbs and keep your body rotated. This can help loosen you up and improve your coordination.

If you feel that you tend to walk slower and take smaller steps, Nordic walking creates a steady beat to improve your pace. It can also make exercise fun and social when done in a group.

What is Nordic Walking?

Nordic Walking is a great low impact all over body workout.  However don’t be scared there are no squats, lunges or weights involved. We also have places where you can stop and rest if needed.

Beginners to Nordic Walking often have questions about it, so we have tried to answer some of the typical questions that people ask.  You can find these in the “Questions” tab above, so why not take a look.

There is also information available on the Parkinson’s UK website – Nordic walking and Parkinson’s | Parkinson’s UK

Questions

What is Nordic walking?

We wrote a blog entitled “What is Nordic walking?” to explain what Nordic Walking is and the benefits to you.

Why are we walking on the grass?

Grass is an excellent surface to learn the INWA 10 Step Method™ for a few reasons:

  1. The surface is usually flat with no obstacles, which means your posture remains correct without worrying about tripping over;
  2. When placing your pole behind you it is much easier to get good purchase to push through the strap to assist your technique; and
  3. You will have beautiful scenery.

What do I need to bring?

On our website we have a FAQ (Frequently asked questions) section that will provide you with more information.

We will also send you an email at least 2 days before your session with extra information, but please feel free to contact us.
