Description

Hedgehope

HedgehopeRecce - HedgehopeRecce Jul2023M 9

Hedgehope is the second highest hill in the Cheviots.  However, it isn’t the big, lumberring hill that is Cheviot.  It is a much more conical hill and, as a result, has much better views.

The start

Once we have parked up near Hartside Farm, we will walk along the road towards Linhope to reach a path that takes us across fields to the foot of Cunyan Crags.

Cunyan Crags

Cunyan Crags is the first climb (180m).  It is a little steep in places, but we can rest sitting on the rocks at the top.

Dunmoor Hill

From Cunyan Crags, we descend a little and then climb Dunmoor Hill, adding another 100m of climbing.

Hedgehope

Descending off Dunmoor, we lose the 100m we climbed to get to the top, but we are at the start of the last climb, Hedgehope.  We climb approx. 242m to the summit of Hedgehope.  Here we will stop for lunch.

Linhope

When we leave Hedgehope summit, we descend by the same path as we came up, before turning off onto an old farm track. This track takes us down past Linhope Spout, so those that want to can visit Linhope Spout waterfall.

Ingram Visitor Centre

After the walk we will be visiting the Ingram Visitor Centre for refreshments.

We look forward to seeing you there.
